Joanne Gardner

Integrative Dietitian / Nutritionist

Joanne joined the Duke Integrative Medicine staff in 2013. Since 1986 she has worked as a clinical dietitian in acute and outpatient healthcare settings and as an independent contractor providing nutrition consultation and education services to individuals, groups, sports teams and businesses.

She has completed integrative, functional and sports nutrition training and is a member of the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine, Sports and Cardiovascular Nutritionists and Hunger and Environmental Nutritionists, sub-groups of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a Certified Leap Therapist, specializing in food sensitivities.

Her special interests include cooking, running, cycling and other outdoor activities, mind/body practices and gardening. She is a yoga instructor registered with the Yoga Alliance.

She coaches clients toward thoughtful, customized selection and preparation of meals to maximize their ability to contribute to improved health and help overcome obstacles that can interfere with achieving with a healthy, mindful lifestyle.

  • Therapy consults for children age 5 and older, adolescents and adults; new and returning guests
  • Condition specific nutrition therapy (including but not limited to: food allergies/intolerances, weight management, diabetes, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, hypertension and dyslipidemia)
  • Nutrition consults for health maintenance, wellness and sports nutrition for athletes
  • Dietary supplement review and consultations
  • Certified LEAP Therapist for Food Hypersensitivities
