John Weeks is a writer, speaker, organizer, and executive with three decades of experience as a leader in the movement for integrative health and medicine. He works at the convergence of that historic trend with the medical industry’s growing engagement of a value-based focus on creating health.
Mr. Weeks’s writing has appeared in Health Forum, Hospitals & Health Networks, the Physician Executive Journal, Medical Economics, the Huffington Post, Global Advances in Health and Medicine, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine’s The Pain Practitioner, and multiple integrative health and medicine publications. He is a chronicler and sometimes a curmudgeon on policy, business, academic, and collaborative developments.
For 20 years, Mr. Weeks has presented and created panels and educational events on integrative health topics. Venues include the Integrative Healthcare Symposium, Georgetown University, All Together Better Health, the American Medical Student Association, the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine, and the Association of American Medical Colleges workforce conference. He is an active participant in the Institute of Medicine Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education.
Mr. Weeks’s writing and speaking are informed by hands-on experience. He has consulted on integration strategies with medical delivery organizations in Florida, Indiana, California, Arizona, Colorado, Washington and elsewhere. He was contracted by the Washington State Insurance Commissioner to co-facilitate the Clinician’s Workgroup on the Integration of CAM and has assisted multiple insurers in developing their networks. He has consulted to the National Institutes of Health on coverage strategies and the World Health Organization on the 2014-2023 Traditional Medicine Strategy. As an organizer, Mr. Weeks convened three multi-stakeholder Integrative Medicine Industry Leadership Summits, cofounded the Integrative Health Policy Consortium, directed a 12-profession academic dialogue, and cofounded and served 8 years as Executive Director of the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health., medical delivery organizations, the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner, and numerous professional and academic organizations.
Weeks attended Stanford University for 3 years, studying history. Four institutions have granted him honorary doctorates. In 2014, three consortia combined to grant him a Lifetime Achievement Living Tribute Award, complete with a book of testimonials from 150 leaders, at the International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health. Based in Seattle, Mr. Weeks feels particularly lucky to have worked 6 of the past 15 years from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico with his spouse and their two children. johnweeks@theintegratorblog.com
