Mindful Yoga for Cancer

When does the program start and end?

Check-in on Day 1 opens at 1:30 pm, with the program starting at 2 pm and will meet until 5:30 pm.  Days 2-7 will meet from 9 am to 5:30 pm, and Day 8 will meet 9 am – noon.

A lunch, and morning and afternoon beverage service is available each day of the course.  Vegetarian options are available.

What will I learn in this training?

Our goal is to help yoga instructors integrate knowledge gained from modern medicine’s evidence-based science with the ancient wisdom, experience and tradition of Yogic teachings. Areas we will cover include:

  • How to safely and effectively teach yoga to people living with cancer
  • Overview of the diagnosis, symptoms, treatments, side‐effects, and prognosis of common cancers
  • Evidence‐based modules for cancer‐related symptoms
  • Tailoring asana and pranayama to specific symptoms
  • Principles of Mindful Yoga
  • Context of yogic principles for people from various faith traditions

What will I receive upon successful completion of the course?

Students who successfully complete this 7‐day training program will earn a Certificate of Completion in Mindful Yoga for Cancer from Duke Integrative Medicine. Completion of this training will give you the skills and knowledge to work skillfully and safely with students healing from cancer.  Duke is not a certifying body for yoga.
