After being diagnosed with a chronic, lifelong disease at the age of 50, Kathy Mackintosh took inventory of all aspects of her health. Many of her medical issues could be helped by making important lifestyle changes. These changes included losing weight and challenging herself by participating in 50 mile walks and 60 story stair climbs for charity. Her personal successes eventually led her to Duke Integrative Medicine’s DHWCT program, to partner with others to realize their own personal health goals.
Her education background includes a BS and M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, and she is the founder and owner of Clear Path Health Coaching LLC in Raleigh, NC. She holds a Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology and has integrated this training with private coaching clients, in introducing positive psychology science through art to elementary school students, teaching classes through adult learning programs, and public speaking. She believes that the ability to cross hurdles in life and achieve goals is enhanced by the use of practical tools from the science of positive psychology in conjunction with the Duke Health and Wellbeing coaching process.
Since 2013, Kathy has used her coaching skills to facilitate positive psychology programs for Multiple Sclerosis patients, and volunteers for the National MS Society as a speaker and a self-help group leader. For her volunteer service, in 2014, she was inducted into the National MS Society’s Volunteer Hall of Fame for Programs and Services.
She has supported new Duke Health and Well-Being coaching students as a coach mentor since 2012, and as an instructor and mentor since 2014. And she recently followed through on a long held wish and became a Certified Laughter Yoga leader!
