Nourish: Fundamentals of Medical Weight Management FAQs

Nourish: Fundamentals of Medical Weight Management is a series of four interactive, online modules. It includes an introduction to medical weight management and explores nutrition, exercise, and mental well-being. It is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to change eating habits, improve exercise routines, and adopt a healthier lifestyle to meet wellness goals.

Each module is filled with content from Duke Health & Well-Being providers who are recognized experts in their field. This information can help you set and achieve realistic health goals, overcome setbacks, and create the right mindset for long-term lifestyle changes that lead to successful weight management. The information this series is based on what we’ve learned from decades of evidence-based, non-judgmental care for people at our Durham campus.

This series was created in collaboration with experts from Duke Health & Well-Being. It combines academic research and practical information from Duke Health doctors, nutritionists, dieticians, exercise physiologists, and other professionals who care for people at  Duke Integrative Medicine, Duke Lifestyle and Weight Management Center, and the Duke Health & Fitness Center.

This self-paced, online course that can be completed on your own time. You will have one year after the date of registration to complete and revisit content. You will also get a copy of your course journal entries and materials to help you get started. These tools can help you implement diet and fitness changes based on a plan you create.

We offer educational materials created by a range of specialists and experts, so you get insight from different health disciplines. Because our course is on-demand, you can take as long as you’d like to work through our interactive content. You can access the training for a year after you register, even after you complete the course.

Nourish: Fundamentals of Medical Weight Management is helpful to anyone interested in managing their weight, losing weight, or looking for new ways to improve their well-being. Healthcare professionals who want to keep up to date with the latest research in weight management can also benefit.

The course is completely online and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. While it will work on any browser, we recommend Chrome or Safari to ensure the best experience. It can also be accessed on a mobile device.

Whenever you exit a session, your progress will be saved so you can pick up where you left off when you return. You are not required to complete a chapter before you log out.

You have access to the course and materials for one year after registration. You can revisit content as much as you’d like, on your own time.

Experts are available at the Duke Lifestyle and Weight Management Center and  Duke Health & Fitness Center. Our providers, nutritionists, and behavioral health providers lead weight loss programs and offer exercise classes and virtual and in-person personal training.

Duke Health & Well-Being currently offers two other classes that can help you lose and manage weight:

  • Changing from Within: An eight-part course that explores how your mind, body, and daily behaviors affect eating and wellness
  • Health & Well-Being Smarts: A monthly webinar that discusses and reviews the most up-to-date recommendations for whole-person health and well-being
  • Getting on Track: This eight-week program features weekly interactive nutrition, exercise, and behavioral change classes, weekly group exercise sessions, and individualized nutrition and exercise plans.
