Leading Others in Writing For Health

“Writing about stressful situations is one of the easiest ways for people to take control of their problems and release the negative effects of stress from their bodies and their lives.” -James Pennebaker, PhD

This 2-day workshop is a comprehensive, experiential training based on James Pennebaker’s 30 years of research in writing to heal. The curriculum will provide easily adaptable lessons, activities, and guideposts for anyone working in the healthcare field — physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, hospice workers, health coaches, and others — to use in their personal meditative practices for health and well-being. These learned skills subsequently transfer to the care of their clients and patients as they become more attuned to the benefits of writing for health.

The workshop will lead learners through progressive learning that incorporates these Sixteen Reasons for Writing for Health: Creates vision and sets intentions, clarifies values, assesses status, stimulates thinking that leads to insights and understanding, changes perspective and perception, facilitates mindfulness practice, expresses and defines readiness to change, clarifies importance and builds confidence, removes obstacles to build confidence and resilience, measures progress, encourages staying on track, builds resilience, affirms strengths, communicates gratitude, empathy and compassion, creates, develops and supports exuberance, and produces opportunities to flourish.
