What is the difference between a Consult and Primary Care visit?

A Duke Integrative Medicine Consult does not require a membership. It is a specialist visit, covered by insurance with specialty copay.

Our primary care program is a membership based concierge program (hybrid program of insurance based coverage and membership fee) that provides the full spectrum of primary care services along with longer appointments, easier access for acute visits and 24/7 access to your primary care team. Primary care is meant to be an ongoing relationship to support your needs now and into the future.

A Duke Integrative Medicine Consult does not require a membership. It is a specialist visit, covered by insurance with specialty copay. You must have a primary care physician to whom the consultant can communicate the plan. This is a focused typically shorter term relationship concentrating on the most salient issues for treatment and providing a road map for the future. Consultants do not provide acute care visits or long term prescription needs and are not available after hours.
